Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) to Partner with Graystone Consulting on an Impact Investing and Accounting Seminar for Scientific and Medical Societies

This event has been postponed until early 2018. To receive a notice about the date and time for the rescheduled event, contact CBM Marketing and Business Development Director Joe Kovacs at jkovacs@cbmcpa.com.

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM), a Bethesda, MD-based accounting and advisory firm, will host an upcoming professional education event with Graystone Consulting, a Morgan Stanley business, for scientific and medical societies. The seminar, to be held Tuesday, October 17, from 4 – 6 PM at the Bethesda Marriot on Pooks Hill Road, will investigate impact investing and upcoming accounting changes that impact a broad array of not-for-profit organizations.

“An important opportunity exists to help scientific and medical societies navigate a new change proposed by the Financial Accounting Standards Board as it concerns a new presentation of not-for-profit financial statements,” said Dan Weaver, CPA, Senior Vice President and CBM’s scheduled seminar speaker. “We are also excited to partner with Graystone Consulting since they have the investment expertise to provide insights about impact investing, an area of increasing interest within the not-for-profit industry.”

In addition to speaking about the new FASB pronouncement on not-for-profit financial statements, Mr. Weaver will also address accounting concerns specific to publications such as signing bonuses, royalties and unrelated business income, and strategies for capitalizing a website or software.

“CBM provides audit and consulting services to more than 25 scientific and medical societies,” continued Mr. Weaver. “Because Graystone Consulting also has significant expertise in this niche, we believe we have the in-depth knowledge to apply our knowledge of the trends and challenges impacting most not-for-profit organizations specifically for this audience.”

Mr. Weaver, who is also director in charge of CBM’s not-for-profit services and a frequent speaker on industry trends in the not-for-profit industry, has nearly 20 years of experience delivering audits, reviews, tax preparation, and specialized audits on compliance and internal controls required for Single Audits of federal awards to not-for-profit organizations.

CBM President and Managing Partner Peter B. Reilly will emcee the October 17 event, providing introductory remarks and welcoming guests.
