Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) to Present on Top Issues Facing Not-for-Profits and Government Auditing Standards at 2017 GWSCPA Not-for-Profit Symposium

Daniel L. Weaver, CPA, and Anthony A. Cuozzo, Jr., CPA, CGFM, respectively senior vice president/director of not-for-profit services and senior advisor at Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM), will present at the Greater Washington Society of CPAs’ 2017 Not-for-Profit Symposium. The event, which draws together financial management professionals from the not-for-profit industry for three days of professional education and networking, will be held November 27-29, 2017 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

CBM will address the following topics:

  • Top 4 Issues for Not-for-Profit Organizations in 2017-2018. Monday, November 27, 2:20 – 3:35 p.m. Weaver and Cuozzo will address the number of threats currently facing not-for-profit organizations including cybersecurity and current examinations of IRS Tax Form 990. They will also review five areas in which not-for-profits are dealing with new accounting standards, and the flexible financial statement format intended to make the statements easier for stakeholders to understand.
  • Government Auditing Standards Update. Tuesday, November 28, 8:30 – 9:40 a.m. Cuozzo will review with not-for-profit financial management leaders the 2011 revision to the “Yellow Book” Standards. His presentation will include an in-depth discussion of Yellow Book CPE requirements and changes to the independence rules. Participants will leave this session with a greater understanding of the revised Standards.

“With emerging accounting standards and new cybersecurity threats facing not-for-profits, as well as the ongoing education for financial leaders concerning Single Audits, this is an important year for not-for-profit professionals to stay current with industry developments,” said Weaver.
