Debora E. May, CPA, CFP®, CDFA®, Executive Vice President at Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM), director of the firm’s divorce, litigation, wealth management and financial planning practice, and chief investment officer at May Barnhard Investments (MBI), the firm’s financial advisory subsidiary, has been recognized by Washingtonian Magazine as a top financial advisor in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. May has been recognized nine times by Washingtonian over the years, including for her expertise in financial planning and divorce litigation support, through an ongoing peer review process managed and administered by the magazine.

May has more than 30 years of public accounting experience with expertise in tax, financial planning and investment management for individuals and closely held businesses, collaborative divorce, divorce litigation support and negotiation for financial settlements in divorce. She is also actively involved with individual tax work and has represented clients in IRS and state audit matters.

“I am honored for the recognition,” said May. “In recent years, an array of new legislation including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the SECURE Act and new rules governing the taxation of pandemic relief programs have raised numerous financial questions in clients’ minds. It’s crucial that professionals providing financial advisory guidance stay current with new rules and laws to retain confidence in the face of so much uncertainty. I appreciate the trust that CBM’s clients continue to place in my and my colleagues’ expertise.”

“Debbie’s accomplishments over the years are remarkable and remain a source of pride for Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell,” said Daniel L. Weaver, CPA, president and managing partner of the firm. “Her long-time clients, as well as those throughout the firm, know that her commitment to client service excellence makes her worthy of recognition. On behalf of our entire team, I wish to congratulate her.”
