Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) was named by the Daily Record as one of the 2024 Best Companies to Work For in Maryland. The awards event announcing all recognized companies was held at the Prime Rib at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Hanover, MD on Wednesday, September 4 as part of its annual program to celebrate organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to excellence. Research for the Best Companies to Work For program was managed by the Best Companies Group.

CBM was named 5th in the Daily Record’s event publication with 21 other institutions recognized throughout the state. Selection criteria was based on a rigorous survey process that examined each institution’s work policies, practices and demographics and, weighted most heavily, employee feedback that measured team members’ experience at the company.

“CBM is proud of the culture we have cultivated over the years,” said Daniel L. Weaver, the firm’s president and managing partner. “We know our professionals excel best in serving clients in an environment that empowers them, and prioritizes support for professional development, health and wellness, diversity and collaborative team building. We are proud and appreciative of this recognition.”

The Daily Record shared the following about CBM based on the survey results:

“Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) is an award-winning accounting and advisory firm that has served clients throughout the Washington, D.C. & Mid-Atlantic regions since 1921. No firm can thrive for more than 100 years without successfully serving both clients and team members. It prioritizes the goal of building strong morale and team spirit, which is demonstrated through events such as a dress-like-a-pirate cruise on the Potomac River, fall picnic, karaoke parties, evenings at the Kennedy Center, a team softball league, yoga, hiking, wellness sessions and more. CBM also provides time off and support for parents of newborn children, letting each team member decide whether he/she thrives best working from CBM’s office or from home. It also offers professional development programs such as Project Clear Path, which assigns a mentor and creates coaching opportunities for each younger team member.

The firm’s diversity and inclusion group D-PATH came to life spearheaded by a trailblazing woman partner, to provide networking, professional development and empowerment opportunities for women and minorities. Additionally, CBM provides access to mental health care benefits to team members experiencing challenging life and work situations and hosts volunteer community service initiatives between colleagues.”
