Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell (CBM) is scheduled to sponsor and present at the 2021 Greater Washington Society of CPA’s annual Nonprofit Symposium. The GWSCPA nonprofit symposium, to be held digitally from November 16-18, brings together representatives from the not-for-profit sector as well as members from the accounting profession who serve the industry for two and a half days of learning and connecting. Participation provides access to a community of resources that will extend far into the next year.

CBM Partner Julia Lafferty and Senior Advisor Anthony Cuozzo are scheduled to present at the symposium on Thursday, November 18 from 10:30 am – 11:20 am, in a session entitled the Impact of the New Revenue Recognition Standards on Contributions, Grants and Paycheck Protection Program Loan Forgiveness. The session will review the new revenue recognition standard, the new contribution standard for not-for-profit organizations (including the criteria for recording a conditional contribution) and if and when to record forgiveness of a PPP loan. Julia, past chair of the GWSCPA symposium committee and current member of the GWSCPA board of governors, and Anthony will additionally discuss how an exchange transaction differs from a contribution, including the definition of “commensurate value”.

As a silver sponsor for the GWSCPA nonprofit symposium, CBM will host a virtual trade show booth during the two-and-a-half day event. The firm’s not-for-profit accountants and advisors will be available for one-on-one discussions with attendees who visit our booth on:

    • Wednesday, November 17 (12:00 pm – 1:30 pm)
    • Thursday, November 18 (11:20 am – 12:50 pm).

More than a dozen team members will participate in the symposium this year, continuing a long history of involvement with the event. We look forward to seeing you there!
