Judith P. Barnhard, CPA, CFP®, CDFA®

Judith P. Barnhard, CPA, CFP®, CDFA® is a senior vice president at CBM – Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. with 35+ years of industry experience. During her career, she has audited and consulted with not-for-profit entities, provided business and personal financial planning services, and performed peer reviews for Washington, DC-area accounting and advisory firms.

Before joining CBM, Ms. Barnhard oversaw audit practice quality control for not-for-profit, government contractor and closely-held business clients as well as provided personal income tax and financial planning services at May & Barnhard, P.C., a Bethesda, MD-based tax and financial consulting firm she co-founded and which merged into CBM in November 2017.

Ms. Barnhard specializes in preparing income tax returns for individuals and tax-exempt organizations, with an added emphasis on tax and comprehensive financial planning.  She is a certified financial planner and, as such, consults on retirement planning, cash flow and budgeting, risk management and provides portfolio review and investment counseling.

Ms. Barnhard is the Chief Compliance Officer for the firm’s financial planning practice and its wealth management subsidiary, May Barnhard Investments, LLC.

Prior to her 26 years at May & Barnhard, P.C. she worked as an experienced A&A manager at a large international accounting firm and as an internal auditor for a Fortune 500 publishing company.

Ms. Barnhard received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Northeastern University.

Influence:

My family and spiritual beliefs have been strong influences in my personal and professional life. I have found that working with individuals and non-profit organizations is especially gratifying.  Specifically helping both achieve their goals, whether it be with financial statements, investment management, tax return preparation, financial planning decisions or management consulting, knowing that I have been a helping hand, has been personally rewarding and congruent with my personal life pursuits.

Inspiration:

I think I am most inspired by the awe of Mother Nature and all it holds.  I love being outdoors.  I love the change of seasons and also both domesticated and wild animals.
